Become a Foster Family

Become a foster home! There are many animals that do not do well in the shelter environment, It is so stressful for them. If you love dogs and or cats but don’t want one full time, this is a wonderful way to help get them out of the shelter and allow them a quiet, calm life until their forever human comes along.  Not only are there dogs and cats that really struggle with the shelter life, there are many that are heartworm positive when they arrive.  This automatically means they will be at the shelter 2 months for treatment before they can be placed available for adoption.  Fostering gets them out of the shelter for those months while they are treated(by the shelter) for heartworms. We would love to have as many fosters as possible to help improve the quality of life for these animals as they wait to be adopted into their forever home.

Why Foster for Carroll County Animal Shelter?

Fosters truly save lives.

Many of the animals who come through our shelter need extra time, time to heal, grow, recover, or simply feel safe again. As a shelter, we can’t do this alone. We rely on our community to step in and help these animals thrive in a home environment while they wait for their forever families.

When you foster, you become a vital part of an animal’s journey. You give them comfort, stability, and a second chance, and that makes all the difference.

What Types of Animals Need Foster Homes?

Most animals in our shelter are eligible for foster care, with the exception of court cases or animals with serious aggression concerns.

Our greatest foster needs include:

  • Medical cases who need a quiet place to heal

  • Puppies and kittens who are too young for adoption

  • Large dogs who may benefit from basic training or decompression outside the shelter

Our goal is to move animals into foster homes as quickly as possible. Ideally, we want more animals thriving in foster care than housed in the shelter, and that’s where you come in.

What Do I Need to Foster?

All you truly need is a willing heart and an open home.

We provide:

  • Medications and medical care

  • Supplies for nursing babies

  • Crates and necessary equipment

Occasionally, we may ask foster families to provide food if supplies are running low, but everything else needed to care for your foster animal is supplied.
